School Tries to Ban US Flag from 9/11 Memorial

Every so often, a school or university tries to ban the flag from its campus, and somehow thinks they’ll get away with it.

Last spring, a UC Irvine student board tried to remove a prominent campus flag because it intimidated illegal aliens. No joke. Heaven forbid the stars and stripes would hurt the tender feelings of law-breaking border crossers!

Well, here we go again. This time, however, it’s even more personal, because this time, it’s about 9/11.

Back in 2012, students at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign commemorated 9/11 by staking their quad with thousands of small flags, each representing a victim of the attacks. The 2012 event was so well received, students decided to bring it back this year.

Keep in mind, in 2001, current undergraduates were between four and eight years old. There’s a good chance they don’t even remember 9/11, yet they’re still taking the time to show they care about what happened.

And then their school spat on their idea. Despite the 2012 success, this year’s proposal was declared “against University Policy…due to the irrigation system.” Seriously?

Prepare yourself to beam with pride over what happened next.
