NRA Says Stop Gun Sales for People on Terror Watch List

The head of the NRA's  Institute for Legislative Action says people on terrorist watch lists should not be able to buy guns. Chris W. Cox released a statement as he was meeting with Donald Trump to discuss the issue.

"The NRA's position on this issue has not changed. The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing," Cox said.

The statement comes as questions arise as to how Omar Mateen, investigated twice by the FBI, was able to buy guns legally after being investigated. He was not charged with any offenses and cleared in 2014.

Cox said that people involved in, or suspected of involvement in, terrorism should not be able to purchase firearms and that the sale should be blocked, but he also called for safeguards to be in place for the innocent.
